THE Dutch Ambassador Visits to Liberia: Launches the Solidaridad Projects

On 13th June 2019, the Ambassador of the kingdom of the Netherlands visited Liberia to launch the Solidaridad Sustainable West African Palm-Oil Programme (SWAPP) & the Cocoa Rehabilitation and Intensification Programme (CORIP) projects which is sponsored by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana. These projects seeks to benefit 42,000 Cocoa and Palm Oil farmers in Liberia to improve their incomes and livelihoods. The occasion was graced by the beneficiaries, partner NGOs and some officials of the Liberia government, including the minister of Agricultural and the representative of the Vice President of Liberia who both encouraged Liberians to take advantage of the opportunity and make the most out agribusiness. Finally, the launching of the programme ended with a cocktail reception at the Solidaridad office in Sinkor Monrovia, Liberia.

As part of the Ambassador`s mission to Liberia, he also had meetings with three Government Ministries (Commerce & Industry, Health and Foreign Affairs) in order to discuss Liberia-Netherlands relationship. The discussion centered on Solidaridad Project with the Embassy of the Netherlands, Health, Trade and other relevant issues.

The ambassador visit continued with a field trip on the 15th of June 18, 2019

 A team of three (3) comprises of Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, Solidaridad Liberia and Liberia Netherlands Business Cultural Council visited project sites to ascertain implementation ongoing by implementing partner Solidaridad.  The team left Monrovia on the 15th of June to Bong Mines, Bong and Nimba County respectively. Four sites were visited, by the team, Fuamah District, Moanga & Bellemue Kpai District, Bong County and Copper Village, Nimba County. At these project sites, the town chiefs of each of the town welcome the visiting teams and the project coordinators took the team through the project activities that is ongoing.  Implementing projects are Cocoa Nursery where Solidaridad provided to private company to establish a nursery of 68,000 seedings for distribution to farmers on commercial basis, Rehabilitation to old cocoa farm structure and building a county center for cocoa development, training on Best Management Practice and establishment of 10000 seedings for oil palm and provision of a modern mill. On the 16th, the team also left for Bomi to visit two (2) project sites namely Traditional Oil Palm and Ma Juma Farm. At these project sites, traditional processing of oil palm are carryout. The team also witnesses how the prototype oil palm mill processed the oil.  Prospect of these sites, Solidaridad will upgrade the mill by providing a weighing bridge and coverage that will support the movement. The two (2) days field visits were categorized by knowledge gained and experienced and getting a hands-on facts on how farmers are working to enhance the emerging growth of agriculture in Liberia.
